Extractions
A tooth extraction is when a tooth is removed due to disease, crowding or trauma. The dentist will make sure to numb the area first so the patient isn’t uncomfortable. Following the tooth extraction, you’ll be advised of what to do to prevent infections from occurring in that area.
Here are some Recovery Tips:
- Avoid things that would prevent healing
- Do not smoke
- Be careful not to rinse your mouth harshly
- Do not drink out of a straw for at least 24 hours
- Your dentist will suggest a diet, follow that plan
Afterwards you may rinse your mouth gently for the first few days following extraction if you must. If swelling occurs apply a cold cloth or ice bag and call the dentist. Brush and floss other teeth as normal.
